Smart Tachographs are the second generation of digital tachographs used to record a driver’s working hours. The smart devices allow operators to remotely access the tachograph information, giving fleet managers more control over their fleet’s compliance.

Motor Transport’s Hot Topics: Cameras and Telematics 2023 report, stated that, event though it’s necessary for vehicles manufactured since July 2019 to be fitted with a smart tachograph, that only 21% of operators have the devices fitted on all of their vehicles.

With the EU mobility package requiring that all vehicles travelling within the EU must have smart tachographs to be retrofitted by August 2025, it’s surprising that the number of fleets that are fully equipped with smart tachographs is still so low.
