In April, it was announced that the government would be providing additional funding to improve security, lighting and shower facilities at truck stops for drivers. This was a really positive step for our industry which would work towards creating a better working environment for drivers and we were hopeful that this would help to improve driver recruitment and retention 🚛

However, this article ⬆️ reports that many of these improvements have been delayed or put on hold due to local planning processes.

William Gilder, head of the William Gilder Group, has stated that this is not only putting drivers “at risk” by forcing them to park up in dangerous locations, but is also “seriously impacting the wider supply chain”.

The health and safety of drivers is hugely important to us at Convey, and so we are hopeful that these planning delays are overcome as quickly as possible!
