During the Covid-19 pandemic, the DVSA supported the vehicle testing exemptions for HGVs which extended MOT expiry dates for 3 months. These exemptions gave fleet managers some leeway during what was a very difficult time for the transport industry.
The DVSA discussed in their blog ⤵️ that despite the exemptions in testing, continued enforcement activity assured that vehicle safety wasn’t compromised.

“Operators did a great job to keep running during the pandemic and there was no significant change in prohibition rates for either mechanical defects or drivers’ hours offences. This shows that despite exemptions to testing for some operators, there was no meaningful impact on vehicle safety”.
At Convey we are focussed on driver and road safety, and so it’s great to read that the exemptions didn’t stop operators prioritising the safety of their drivers and other road users.
