DVSA announced that they are trialling remote tachograph sensing equipment

The DVSA have just announced that they are trialling remote tachograph sensing equipment, which will make it easier for them to identify operators that are not complying with the tachograph rules. This is a real step change for the industry and one of the most significant targeted moves that the transport sector has experienced in recent times.

While this announcement and the software is new, the concept is not, and is something that the industry has been concerned about for a long while.

The DVSA hasn’t released very much information about how the system will work but have said that they will be able to identify if operators are non-compliant while driving alongside them on the road or from vehicles passing by them on the roadside.

This should aid the operational efficiency of compliant fleets, as it should reduce the number of vehicles that are stopped on the roadside unnecessarily.

We will continue to follow any news on this subject and share any updates as they arise.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you have concerns about this new equipment?
