Commercial Vehicles could easily avoid thousands of punctures a year, simply by checking yards regularly.
A study from Bridgestone concludes that thousands of HGV punctures in England could be prevented if commercial fleets took the time to check their yards and depots for things like bolts, nails and screws.
The two-year study into debris related punctures reported that 504 items of debris were found across 5 sites. 200 of these were deemed as being ‘medium to high risk’ and were the potential sources of puncture related incidents.
The 102 high risk and 98 medium risk items of debris support the findings of the 2018 Tyre Debris Study Report, which found 56% of analysed tyre failures were due to penetrations from sharp objects. You can read more about the study here
