DVSA identified 28,837 serious roadworthiness defects and traffic offences during 2025–26, according to its latest Annual Report and Accounts. While the total is slightly lower than the previous year, it remains above DVSA’s target of 28,000, highlighting the continued focus on roadside enforcement.

Whether you use analogue or digital tachographs, your records need to be accurate, complete and readily available. Operators should ensure tachograph data is downloaded and retained correctly, while drivers should understand when printouts may be required during roadside inspections or if a driver card cannot be used. 

Driver records 

Driver licence checks, Driver CPC records, training records and defect reporting history all help demonstrate that drivers understand their responsibilities and that compliance is being actively managed across the business.
